AGE: 21

MAJOR: Fitness Wellness, Coaching

HERO: My father, Martin Newton

FAVORITE SPORT'S ATHLETE: Pistol Pete

BEST ALL TIME SHOOTER IN THE NBA: Reggie Miller

TTU HOOPS: What goes through a player's mind during a redshirt year?

CHARLES NEWTON: I learned a lot of patience and tried to study the game from a different perspective.

TTU HOOPS: How is this year's team different from last year's team?

CHARLES NEWTON: Our attitude and mindset are completely different. We compete every day and we really are a family.

TTU HOOPS: You went to prep school at Fork Union Military Academy and played for one of the best coaches in the country, Fletcher Arritt. Describe your experience at FUMA.

CHARLES NEWTON: It was an extremely intense experience. We were not allowed to have cell phones, ipods, computers, free time, and no girls! Needless to say, I read a lot of books...

TTU HOOPS: You have a few nicknames, the guys call you Newt, the coaches call you Jr., and your sister calls you Bub. Can you explain?

CHARLES NEWTON: People have called me Newt and my father Daddynewt for a long time. The coaches call me Jr., because they say I look like assistant coach Russ Willemsen. My sister calls me Bub and I call her Bumps. There is not really a meaning, that's just us.
